Alexander Sørloth came on as a second-half substitute before scoring the winner as Atletico Madrid edged past Getafe 1-0.

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has hailed the substitutes after helping his side edge past Getafe 1-0 thanks to a second-half goal from Alexander Sørloth, Marca reported on Sunday.

Simeone changed the game at half-time by bringing on Sorloth for Samuel Lino before sending on Angel Correa and Naoul Molina for Juliano Simeone and Marcos Llorente until the two Atletico Madrid substitutes finally delivered their magic when Molina crossed for Sorloth to head home the winning goal in the 69th minute.

‘The best result was 1-0. We did a good job in defense and we played strong in attack. When you win 4-3 you have to check a lot of things in defense. In a 1-0 win, both the work in defense and the attack are very valuable.’

‘It’s not that I always like to win 1-0. Of course, I like it like everyone else, to get a better result, but the score is very important.’

The Argentine coach also spoke about the impact of the substitutes, saying: ‘Before the game I speak to the players. I remember the ones who are not in the group. We have repeated the pattern many times and the players have competed exceptionally, showing what they can do when it is their turn.’

‘Taking Llorente and Juliano off and putting Naoul and Correa on, bringing in Sorloth for Lino and putting in Koke, that’s our strength.’

‘The competition is the way we want to do it. Cesar (Azpilicueta) is less involved, Conor (Gallagher) is not playing but he is doing a great job. That is the biggest strength we have.’

Speaking before Sørloth’s goal, he said: ‘That’s what we want from him, he helps us in helping us in being involved. We repeated it in other Register ufabet games where he had chances. When you have them, the goals come. It was a great goal, probably the hardest chance in the last two or three times he had. ‘

‘The cross (Molina) was also extraordinary and the header was perfect. It’s not the end of the game in a match like this against Getafe, which is not easy.’
